The Story of Ekadashi describes how the goddess Ekadashi emerged from Lord Vishnu to defeat the demon Murasur, who attacked Vishnu while he was resting. Pleased with her power, Vishnu blessed Ekadashi, stating that anyone who observes the fast on her day (the eleventh day of the lunar cycle) will be freed from sin and attain Vaikuntha, God's abode. This story, found in Hindu scriptures like the Padma Purana, explains the religious practice of fasting and devotion on this spiritually significant day
